Tales of… the Empire?

Ever since Tales of the Jedi aired, many of us have wondered who future episodes could focus on. Well fast forward to this past week, and we were treated to a surprise in the form of a trailer for the follow-on… Tales of the Empire.

So as usual, this sounds and looks great, though it did take me a couple of watches to get used to some of the character models, as this is a different art style for Thrawn and the Inquisitors compared to Rebels.

Coming out on May 4ᵗʰ, this will be another 6-part anthology in the style of its predecessor, so from the trailer I am expecting 3 episodes following Barriss Offee and 3 on Morgan Elsbeth. Now Barriss really excites me as her fate has been one of those great mysteries since season 5 of The Clone Wars. As for Morgan Elsbeth, she certainly wasn’t close to the top of my list (I would have much preferred a few more seasons of Tales of the Jedi, as there are so many characters I’d love to hear more about), however finding out how this Nightsister survived and rose to the position she did under Thrawn will be interesting.

I’m super excited to see how Barriss’ story plays out as after years of us guessing that every new female Inquisitor was Barriss, it looks like she actually does find herself trained by the Inquisitorius, so I am excited to see more background for them (having not yet Rise of the Red Blade), while I also love the fact that it’s going to give us more of the Fourth Sister, who until now has had a minimal role onscreen. I’m so excited to see how this plays out, especially as Tales of the Jedi highlighted similarities in the lives of Ahsoka and Dooku, but how they went down different paths, so I expect something here (and we can already get an idea of this as both Barriss and Morgan find themselves alone following the destruction of their respective orders, and as we know that Morgan continues to assist Thrawn, does this mean that Barriss turns against the Empire?

So right now I’m excited for these episodes and will likely review all 6 in one post, as I did for Tales of the Jedi. I just hope that Lucasfilm continues to expand these stories before necessarily moving on to another similar series—though I’m already getting ideas for a Tales of the Rebellion series!

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

Thanks for reading. Long live the Empire….
