Season 2?

It’s now been a couple of weeks since The Book of Boba Fett came to an end and there is still one question that has gone unanswered: “Will there be a season 2?”

Now personally, I don’t think there will be. Despite only having 7 episodes, the show still couldn’t manage to stick to Boba’s story and instead turned into season 2.5 of The Mandalorian, while it’s hard to see where a season 2 would fit in the schedule with The Bad Batch season 2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor season 1, The Mandalorian season 3 and Ahsoka all likely to come out over the next 18 months.

But let’s look at the alternative for a moment and imagine that season 2 does go ahead. What stories could we see?

WARNING: The following will contain spoilers for what would in this case be considered The Book of Boba Fett

Cobb Vanth

Season 1 saw the Marshal of Freetown choose to support Boba in the fight against the Pykes, only to be gunned down by Cad Bane before he could act. Well the mid-credit scene showed Cobb alive and recovering in the bacta tank, so where does this leave things?

Cobb would likely start the series as an ally, and could easily become one of his key lieutenants or allies. But if Boba does choose to start growing his empire with some illegal actions, could the pair find themselves on the opposite side of a divide. This could be taken even further if they go back to the Cobb Vanth Interludes is the “Aftermath Trilogy” of novels, which included a young Hutt called Borgo being brought up in secret in Freetown, giving a potential rival for Boba’s throne.

While season 1 also gave us most of the Boba Fett story from Sarlacc to Tython, one area is still missing: the search for his armour. We know he tracked Dn Djarin from his meeting with Cobb Vanth, but for how long did Boba know that Cobb had his armour? Did he only arrive as Din left with the armour? Or did he find Cobb using the armour to protect Freetown and decide he was worthy to keep it.

The Twins

Season 1 also introduced the Twins: Jabba’s cousins, who looked to bring Hutt rule back to Tatooine. Ultimately, their role in the show was limited, as they chose not to push their claim after finding out that the Mayor had offered the land to the Pykes.

But with the Pykes gone, could they again look to make a move for their cousin’s old territory? This could especially work if Boba and Cobb continue to work together to rid Tatooine—or at least the Mos Espa/Mos Eisley/Mos Pelgo/Anchorhead area—of organised crime, as the Twins would become a rallying point for all the scum and villainy.

Crimson Dawn

star wars solo qi'ra

Sticking with the idea of another Syndicate looking to come in and becoming a rallying point for the scum and villainy against Boba, we could always welcome back a much more beautiful antagonist. Yes, I mean Qi’ra. The comics have recently been looking at Qi’ra’s involvement with Crimson Dawn during the timeline of the Original Trilogy, and if she were to survive that, then a move on Jabba’s old territory—something that the Pykes failed to hold—would strengthen Crimson Dawn’s standing in the galaxy as the New Republic takes over.

Now I will admit that I haven’t read the comics, so I’m not exactly sure what has happened with the characters, but my understanding is that she worked against the Empire more than with them. Emilia Clarke did a great job as Qi’ra, and if we wanted to continue to include some more flashbacks, we could see some of her past with Crimson Dawn, which could bring an end to her character if she chooses to continue trying to run in the criminal underworld, or instead finding her way out as Boba, Krrsantan and Fennec appear to have done.

Black Sun

Again following in the style of the previous couple of suggestions, Black Sun are the other main power in he Criminal Underworld, but one that has not featured so prominently in the canon story so far. Well this would be the chance, while it could also allow the fan-favourite Legends character of Prince Xizor to make the jump to canon, after recently being name-checked in the comics.

The Bad Batch

With so much time before a season would likely air, the story of Clone Force 99 would have plenty of time to push forward, with their own series potentially even having reached its end by then. If any were still alive by the time of The Book of Boba Fett, they could create an interesting dynamic for Boba, as it would be a reminder of his origins as a clone.

While playing some/all of Hunter/Wrecker/Tech/Crosshair/Echo and Boba would be a great way to show Temuera Morrison’s range as an actor, perhaps the most interesting character from the group to appear would be Omega, who is another unaltered clone (other than the fact she’s female) like Boba was.

As well as questioning his origins, this could also be a chance for Fett to question his legacy, and that could lead to Boba naming Omega (who would appear to be about 10 years younger, but have potentially had a much safer life) as his heir.

Do you have any other ideas? Let me know.

Thanks for reading. May the Force be with you….
