Where has this year gone?! It’s hard to believe that we’re already into December, but we really are into the final stretch of 2022, and with that comes something that I have been looking forward to for months: time to open the new LEGO Star Wars advent calendar. Last year was my first ever time getting the calendar, as one of my friends bought it for me, and I absolutely loved it, so had to get this year’s!
But rather than keep it to myself, I thought that this year it would be fun to chart this month’s gifts with you. So each day, I have been showing you the minikit that was behind that day’s door, allowing you to decide if the calendar is something you would consider purchasing in the future, but I will also then give a few details about the ship/item/character the kit is of. And today, Christmas Eve, is the final day, so a massive thank you to everyone that has followed this series!
So for the last time in 2022… let’s get going!

Day 24 has given us a minikit of R2-D2. An R2-series astromech droid, Artoo began as a repair droid on Queen Amidala’s royal starship, where he was commended for his service fixing the shield generator during the escape through the Trade Federation’s blockade of Naboo when all other repair droids were destroyed. Artoo would further go on to prove himself during the Federation’s invasion, as he flew with Anakin Skywalker in the fighter that destroyed the droid control ship. When Amidala became senator for Naboo, she took Artoo with her.
When assassination attempts on Amidala’s life brought her back into contact with the Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, Artoo joined Amidala as she went into protective hiding with Skywalker. With the Clone Wars breaking out and Amidala’s secret marriage to Skywalker, Artoo served Skywalker throughout the conflict, where he often proved himself a hero.
When the conflict ended, with Skywalker supposedly dead and Amidala dead, Artoo transferred into the employ of Bail Organa alongside C-3PO, and they were assigned to Captain Raymus Antilles of the Tantive IV, though Organa would still make use of him from time to time for actions in service of the Rebellion. When the Tantive IV was attacked by the Empire following the Battle of Scarif, Leia Organa transferred the plans for the Death Star into Artoo and sent him to find Obi-Wan Kenobi, which by chance led to him coming into the employ of the Lars family once again and Luke Skywalker, which led to Skywalker rescuing Organa from captivity on the Death Star and becoming involved in the Rebellion. Artoo flew with Skywalker in the Battle of Yavin, during which he took heavy damage from Darth Vader,, requiring extensive fixing after the victory. Artoo continued to serve with Skywalker throughout the Civil War, once again proving himself a hero on a number of occasions, and needing fixing again after taking a blaster shot during the Battle of Endor.
Following the Galactic Civil War, Artoo stayed in the service of Luke Skywalker as he began to create his Jedi Academy. However when Skywalker went into self-imposed exile following Ben Solo’s turn to the dark side, Artoo returned to the Resistance and went into low-power mode, during which his diagnostic systems went through all the information that he had accrued over the year, having never had his mind wiped—which had helped lead to his individual personality and ingenuity—looking for where Skywalker would have gone. In this state, he heard Rey mention that the First Order had recovered the majority of the starchart that was recovered from the Imperial archives, which prompted him to find the map in the data that he had downloaded years earlier on the first Death Star, which combined with the missing section that BB-8 contained, to provide the Resistance with the map to Skywalker. Artoo went with Rey to Ahch-To, with his main duty being to help track Leia’s location so that they could find the fleeing Resistance. Artoo continued to serve the Resistance during the Cold War, restoring much of C-3PO’s memory after he lost it to help find a Sith Wayfinder, before flying as Poe Dameron’s astromech in the Battle of Exegol.
