LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 21

Where has this year gone?! It’s hard to believe that we’re already into December, but we really are into the final stretch of 2022, and with that comes something that I have been looking forward to for months: time to open the new LEGO Star Wars advent calendar. Last year was my first ever time getting the calendar, as one of my friends bought it for me, and I absolutely loved it, so had to get this year’s!

But rather than keep it to myself, I thought that this year it would be fun to chart this month’s gifts with you. So each day, I will be showing you the minikit that was behind that day’s door, allowing you to decide if the calendar is something you would consider purchasing in the future, but I will also then give a few details about the ship/item/character the kit is of.

So… let’s get going!

Day 21 has given us a minikit of Luke Skywalker. The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, and older twin brother of Leia Organa, Luke Was born days after the rise of the Galactic Empire, shortly before his mother’s death. In order to keep the twins’ existence a secret, their mother was made to still look pregnant at her funeral and the twins were split apart, with Luke being taken to Tatooine to live with his father’s stepbrother Owen Lars and his wife Beru, on their moisture farm. Luke lived there for approximately 19 years, until the chance arrival of R2-D2 and C-3PO led to Ben Kenobi revealing that Luke was the son of a Jedi Knight. With the Empire having killed Owen and Beru, Luke left with Obi-Wan to take the droids to Alderaan, which led to Luke’s rescue of Princess Leia from the Death Star.

Joining the Rebellion, Luke flew in the Battle of Yavin and destroyed the first Death Star, becoming an immediate hero of the Alliance. Over the coming years, Luke would become a key member of the Alliance, form Rogue Squadron, undertake a number of key missions and fight in the defence of Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth. Following Hoth, Luke went to Dagobah to train to become a Jedi under Yoda, but he cut his training short to attempt to rescue Han, Leia, Chewbacca and C-3PO from the Imperial presence on Cloud City, which led to him being defeated by Darth Vader and discovering Vader’s true identity.

While recovering from his run-in with Vader, Luke worked on his training and created a new lightsaber, before arranging the rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. Luke joined the ground team that infiltrated the forest moon of Endor in the build-up to the Battle of Endor, however he surrendered to the Empire in order to be taken to Vader, who he tried to convince to return to the light side. Vader instead took him to the Emperor on the Death Star. The Emperor and Vader tried and almost succeeded in turning Luke to the dark side, but Luke refused to fall, and this led to the Emperor trying to kill him, which led to Anakin Skywalker turning back to the light and killing the Emperor to save Luke.

Following the fall of the Empire, Luke would look for more secrets and knowledge in the Force, while also creating a new academy to train a new generation of Jedi. However when one of his students—his nephew Ben Solo—was seduced by Snoke and fell to the dark side, destroying the Academy, Luke went into exile on Ahch-To. He was eventually found there by Rey, who he started to train before sending her away after an argument, however he realised the errors that he had made and gave his lift projecting his image across the galaxy to distract Kylo Ren and the First Order, giving the remainders of the Resistance a chance to escape.

When Rey learned of her familial links to Palpatine and exiled herself on Ahch-To, Luke returned to her as a Force ghost and gave her the confidence she needed to confront Palpatine, while his spirit was one of those who joined with her on Exegol to help her defeat the Sith Lord once and for all.
