Where has this year gone?! It’s hard to believe that we’re already into December, but we really are into the final stretch of 2022, and with that comes something that I have been looking forward to for months: time to open the new LEGO Star Wars advent calendar. Last year was my first ever time getting the calendar, as one of my friends bought it for me, and I absolutely loved it, so had to get this year’s!
But rather than keep it to myself, I thought that this year it would be fun to chart this month’s gifts with you. So each day, I will be showing you the minikit that was behind that day’s door, allowing you to decide if the calendar is something you would consider purchasing in the future, but I will also then give a few details about the ship/item/character the kit is of.
So… let’s get going!
2022 Advent Calendar:

Day 12 has given us a minikit of Darth Vader. Born Anakin Skywalker, he spent the first 9 years of his life as a slave, eventually being owned by the Toydarian junk dealer Watto. This eventually led to him meeting the Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn, who freed him and took him, having noted his potential as a Force-user and believing him to be the prophesised Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. Skywalker would instead be trained by Jinn’s former padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, following Jinn’s death.
While Skywalker’s powers were clear, he struggled with his attachments due to having joined the Jedi Order so late, and eventually secretly married the senator for Naboo, Padmé Amidala. During the Clone Wars, Skywalker would be knighted and be considered a hero of the Republic, and would take on a padawan of his own, Ahsoka Tano, though an incident in the latter days of the war led to her leaving the Order. Tano leaving helped fuel Skywalker’s distrust of the Jedi Council, who kept him at a distance due to his close friendship with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, and the situation became even worse after Palpatine ordered that Skywalker became his representative on the Council, which they accepted but chose not to gift him the rank of Jedi Master.
This distrust of the Council, nightmares of Padmé’s imminent death in childbirth, and Palpatine’s continued seductions eventually led to Skywalker falling to the dark side, becoming the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who would lead the extermination of the Jedi as the Republic transitioned into the Empire. Vader duelled his former master Kenobi on Mustafar, a battle which saw the Sith Lord lose 3 limbs and left to burn, with Palpatine finding him just in time to save his life. This led to him being put into a life support suit that he would wear for the rest of his life, except for when he rested in a bacta tank.
Vader would serve as Palpatine’s enforcer for approximately 23 years, before Palpatine’s torture of Vader’s own son, Luke Skywalker helped Anakin Skywalker return to the light side and kill Palpatine, though this left him mortally wounded and he died in Luke’s arms.
