Where has this year gone?! It’s hard to believe that we’re already into December, but we really are into the final stretch of 2022, and with that comes something that I have been looking forward to for months: time to open the new LEGO Star Wars advent calendar. Last year was my first ever time getting the calendar, as one of my friends bought it for me, and I absolutely loved it, so had to get this year’s!
But rather than keep it to myself, I thought that this year it would be fun to chart this month’s gifts with you. So each day, I will be showing you the minikit that was behind that day’s door, allowing you to decide if the calendar is something you would consider purchasing in the future, but I will also then give a few details about the ship/item/character the kit is of.
So… let’s get going!
2022 Advent Calendar:
- LAAT/i gunship
Day 1 has given us a minikit of a LAAT/i gunship. The Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship was a versatile repulsorcraft used by the Grand Army of the Republic. Capable of carrying troops both in and out of atmosphere, it was also sufficiently armed to be capable of running air-to-ground and air-to-air strikes.
There were a few different variations of LAAT gunships, as some early models had extra manned ball-turrets that added to the overall firepower, though later designs removed these to allow larger side doors that allowed the interior to be pressurised. While the LAAT/i was designed to carry a troop of 30 clones, other variations removed the infantry bay in order to fly in walkers like the AT-TE, while the gunships could also carry a couple of AT-RT scout walkers or 4 speederbikes, which could be released through the lowering of the rear door. All designs would have a pilot and co-pilot, while models focused on infantry movement would often carry a M-6 battlefield medical droid.
As a way of personalising their ships, clone units would often include artistic designs on their gunships, such as pinups, images of deadly creatures, kill/mission tallies and unit nicknames.
What do you think of the minikit, and the advent calendar in general?
Thanks for reading. May the Force be with you….
