Welcome to the latest instalment of my Galactic Histories series, a series of articles that looks at events and characters throughout the Star Wars canon. Generally speaking, this will often focus largely on characters or events that go beyond the movies, to help people get to know the wider canon a little better and see if there is anything that catches their interest.
Within this series, this will be first of a miniseries subtitled Heroes of the Clone Wars. In the live action movies, we only get to see the beginning and the end of the conflict, and yet the war raged over 3 years. Now when you hear about heroes of the Clone Wars, I imagine that your mind automatically goes to the Jedi, who are the focus of the movies, but I will instead be focusing on the clones of Jango Fett, who were born to fight and die for the Republic. In this miniseries, I will be looking at many of these clones and their histories, breaking things down by looking at a specific unit per article. Of course, some clones I will be covering will have featured in more than 1 of these units, so I will be specifically focusing on their exploits in the unit I am covering at that time.
This will contain spoilers for The Clone Wars
Heroes of the Clone Wars
For this article, I am looking at Tango Company. Like Rancor Battalion last week, Very little is known about Tango Company, but they were a part of the Republic forces sent to take part in the Second Battle of Geonosis. Following the battle, the unit was sent on what should have been a routine supply mission with the Jedi Padawans Ahsoka Tano and Barriss Offee, however the mission became much more serious when it was discovered mid-flight that the unit had been exposed to a species of parasitic brain worms while on Geonosis.
Scythe
CT-9544, nicknamed Scythe, was a trooper in Tango Company during the Second Battle of Geonosis. Following the battle, he was infected by a Geonosian parasitic brain worm while he and his unit slept next to the remains of the Progate Temple. Under the control of the worm, Scythe smuggled unhatched eggs onto the frigate they were using for their next assignment, before releasing the eggs into the trooper barracks while his fellow soldiers slept, allowing them to be easily infected. After Barriss Offee was captured, Scythe also used one of the last eggs to infect her. When Ahsoka Tano successfully cooled down the ship to a temperature too cold for the worms to survive, Scythe was part of the majority of clones who were released from the effects of his worm and survived the ordeal.
Pulsar
CT-9521, otherwise known as Pular, was a sergeant in Tango Company at the time of the Second Battle of Geonosis. Following the battle, Pulsar boarded the medical frigate TB-73, unaware that Scythe had been infected by a brain worm and smuggled more eggs aboard. Pulsar was infected by one of the worms smuggled aboard, along with the majority of the unit, but survived after Ahsoka Tano killed the worms by reducing the temperature on the frigate.
Ox
Ox was another clone who served as part of Tango Company during the Second Battle of Geonosis. After boarding the medical frigate for his next assignment, he was infected by a Geonosian brain worm, which took control of his body. Under the control of the worm, he and one of his fellow infected clones killed the frigate’s pilots to take control of the ship’s bridge, then attacked Ahsoka Tano and Barriss Offee in the mess hall before being knocked out, which alerted the padawans to something going on. Aftercoming around, Ox was involved in infecting the last free trooper and catching Barriss Offee. Ox survived after Ahsoka found a way to nullify the worms, allowing it to be removed.
Edge
Notable for his dyed silver hair and tattoo of the letter “S”, CT-9538 was another member of Tango Company at the time of the Second Battle of Geonosis. Along with most of his unit, he was infected by a brain worm aboard sometime after the medical frigate departed Geonosis. Along with Ox, Edge was forced by the worm to kill the frigate’s pilots before attacking the Jedi Padawans, but was knocked out during the fight. After coming around, he was involved in helping infect the final free trooper and the capture and infection of Barriss Offee. After Ahsoka Tano managed to lower the temperature on the frigate to nullify the worms, Edge was able to be freed of the parasite.
Havoc
CT-9529 served in Tango Company during and after the Second Battle of Geonosis. Following the battle, he joined his company aboard the medical frigate. After Edge and Ox attacked the Jedi Padawans, Havoc and his lieutenant were the first on the scene. While his lieutenant went with the padawans, Havoc kept watch over the 2 unconscious clones, though it is unclear if this led to him being infected by one of the brain worms or if he was already infected. Havoc later joined Ox and Havoc in infecting the final free trooper. Havoc was able to survive the removal of his worm following Ahsoka Tano’s cooling of the ship to nullify the parasites.
Trap
CL-9632 was a lieutenant in Tango Company during the Second Battle of Geonosis and the commanding officer of the unit sent on the supply mission. After the medical frigate departed Geonosis, Trap was among the clones infected by Geonosian brain worms. When Ox and Edge attacked the Jedi Padawans, Havoc and Trap were first on the scene. While Trap had Havoc guard the unconscious Ox and Edge, Trap accompanied the padawans to the bridge, where he attacked the pair. Trap was the only infected member of Tango Company to be killed, as the padawans were forced to fight back and protect themselves.
Thanks for reading. Good soldiers follow orders….
