31 Days of Star Wars – Day 30

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite Original Trilogy Change

Ahh the Original Trilogy. I’ve lost track of how many things have changed on these films. Some of the changes really enhance the films, others… not so much.

In my opinion, the best change was the new ending to Return of the Jedi, replacing the original “Ewok Celebration” (otherwise known as “Yub Nub”) for the new “Victory Celebration”, whilst also adding shots of celebrations on Tatooine, Cloud City, Coruscant and Naboo.

While I don’t mind the original ending, it seemed very dated, whereas “Victory Celebraton” is a much more timeless piece of music and combined with the galaxy-wide celebrations help to force home that the destruction of the second Death Star and the death of Emperor Palpatine are having an effect on the entire galaxy, whilst also helping to tie together the Original and Prequel Trilogies into the saga.

I’m not sure about the later decision to replace Sebastian Shaw with stock footage of Hayden Christensen as Anakin’s force ghost but I can understand George Lucas’ decision there, however I think that regardless of which actor we see, the ending benefits from the change made for the 1992 Special Edition.

What is your favourite change from the Original Trilogy? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
