Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…
Favourite Moment from The Empire Strikes Back
Let’s be honest, there was only ever one moment that I could pick here: the end of Vader and Luke’s confrontation on Cloud City.
I was tempted to pick the Battle of Hoth as I feel that it holds up well on screen even by today’s standards, but how could I pick anything other than one of the greatest reveals in cinema?!
To keep such a big plot point quiet is amazing – though who knows if it would have been possible in today’s social media climate – and I love hearing Mark Hamill discuss how a fake page was put in the script and how he found out what the real line was going to be. To think that Vader could be none other than Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi we had heard such good things about was hard to believe and I love that they had to make Yoda confirm it to Luke because so many people thought Vader was lying to Luke.
Vader: “If you only knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: “He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Vader: “No! I am your father.”
I can’t remember my own reaction to the reveal, but I can’t wait to watch with someone who has never seen the film before and does not know the truth, just so I can see the shock on their face!
Which is your favourite moment from the film? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
