Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…
Favourite Moment from A New Hope
I so nearly picked the start of the assault on the Death Star during the start of the Battle of Yavin, and perhaps I would have had I not seen The Last Jedi, but as much as I enjoyed that battle, I had to pick a much shorter and simpler, but now iconic moment – the Binary Sunset.
Please be aware the following will contain spoilers from The Last Jedi!
Such a simple moment of Luke coming out and looking over the Lars moisture farm and the sands of Tatooine towards the setting suns is again a beautiful image, but it is made iconic by (once again) John Williams’ amazing “The Force Theme” making one of its first but arguably one of its most beautiful appearances in the saga.
What makes this even better is the mirror with The Last Jedi where Luke Skywalker becomes one with the Force on Ahch-To. Though it is not the scene that introduces Luke, we could almost consider these two scenes as the beginning and the end of the hero’s journey. While it was already a great moment, I think that having the moment from The Last Jedi so fresh in my mind helps add to the Binary Sunset in A New Hope.
Which is your favourite moment from the film? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
