31 Days of Star Wars – Day 18

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite Moment from Revenge of the Sith

Possibly one of the most moving moments in the Prequel Trilogy, my favourite moment in Revenge of the Sith is Order 66.

To see Commander Cody who has clearly had Obi-Wan’s trust suddenly turn on him at the simplest of messages order him to fire upon Obi-Wan and his Varactyl in the heat of battle was bad enough, but to then go into a montage showing the deaths of Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura, Plo Koon and Stass Allie, while cutting to Yoda clearly feeling the murders of his fellow Jedi around the galaxy and Anakin about to kill a room of defenceless younglings is heart breaking.

“Commander Cody, the time has come. Execute Order 66.”

Throw in another piece of beautiful music from John Williams and it’s enough to make a grown man weepy. If you haven’t got any knowledge of the Original Trilogy at this point, you can’t help but wonder if Obi-Wan is dead and worry when you see the clones with Yoda receive the order from Palpatine.

This scene shows the true rise of the dark side and the fall of the Jedi in just a few beautiful minutes of cinema.

Which is your favourite moment from the film? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
