31 Days of Star Wars – Day 12

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite Lightsaber Duel

Considering The Last Jedi is the only Star Wars film to have not contained a lightsaber duel, there were plenty of fights to choose from. As with yesterday, I have chosen to stick to duels from the films as the animated shows allow for much more impressive feats than we could expect in live action (otherwise Ahsoka v Vader and Ben Kenobi v Maul would have been in contention), which ended up making my pick very simple: Phantom Menace’s duel between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Let’s not forget, at the time that The Phantom Menace released, we had never seen a lightsaber duel that wasn’t 1v1, so the 2v1 aspect combined with Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber made this fight exciting and unpredictable. As if that wasn’t enough, the casting of Ray Park allowed the fight to take on a much more stylish and energetic feel to anything we had seen before. This really was a feast for the eyes.

But it wasn’t just the eyes that were spoiled. I would argue that John Williams’ “Duel of the Fates” is one of the best pieces in the entire saga and it really helps create in my opinion the most stunning and captivating duel in the entire saga!

Which is your favourite lightsaber duel? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
