31 Days of Star Wars – Day 9

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite Disney Era Movie

So for this one I am looking at all the movies made since Disney bought Lucasfilm and created the new canon, which means that at time of writing the choice is between The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and Rogue One.

I really enjoyed The Last Jedi, but have currently only seen it twice, which makes it really hard to beat Rogue One, which I have watched far too many times! This is the closest we have got to an out-and-out war movie in the Star Wars universe and I love the grittier feel as a result of this. I agree that the characters could have done with more development, but to introduce an almost entirely new cast, develop their characters while pushing the plot forward and (SPOILERS) kill them all off while tying the end of the film into the beginning of A New Hope was never going to be an easy job.

“Rebellions are built on hope”

There was a great attention to detail to make sure that you could believe this was set moments before the opening of A New Hope, but there was also enough new stuff to ensure this was a story in its own right. I absolutely loved the cameos for Tarkin, Leia, Garven Dreis and Jon “Dutch” Vander as it helped with this so much and whilst I would not say the CGI Tarkin and Leia were perfect, they clearly show just how far technology has developed.

For the first standalone movie, this had to be good and it certainly was, Solo: A Star Wars Story and any future standalones have a lot to live up to!

Which is your favourite movie in the Disney Era? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
