31 Days of Star Wars – Day 8

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite Original Trilogy Movie

My view on this has certainly changed over the years. As a child I used to love Return of the Jedi, but as I have got older I have realised just how ridiculous the idea is that a bunch of Ewoks could defeat the technological might of the Empire.

A New Hope is a fantastic film and without it there would be no Star Wars, but The Empire Strikes Back is my pick here. This is the first film where we really get a chance to see what Vader is like as he was effectively Tarkin’s enforcer in A New Hope, so now to see him in charge of the fleet making the decisions is great. The Battle on Hoth still holds up relatively well in modern cinema and of course there’s that reveal as Luke and Vader fight.

“Apology accepted, Captain Needa”

This is the first time we got an idea of the true might of the Empire. A few dozen Starfighters may have destroyed the Death Star but the Imperial fleet and their ground troops laid the Rebels to waste on Hoth, watching this film you can’t help but wonder how the Rebels think they have a chance of winning.

Which is your favourite movie in the Original Trilogy? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
