Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…
Favourite Droid
For years, this would have been R2-D2 but recent Star Wars canon has brought in a number of droids to compete for my affections. BB-8 gets bonus points simply for his ‘thumbs up’ in The Force Awakens, while Chopper’s personality and general troublemaking have pushed him up my list – just watch his joy planting detonators everywhere in the Rebels season 3 episode Hera’s Heroes! But the droid that gets my vote is K-2SO.
“Congratulations! You are being rescued. Please do not resist.”
With Alan Tudyk (who I already loved for his role as Wash in Firefly and Serenity) providing the motion capture performance and voice of K-2SO, I would argue that he was actually the best character in Rouge One. Much like Chopper, he has an attitude we have not really seen from droids before and he has pretty much all the best lines in the film. I’ll be the first to admit how sad I was when he sacrificed himself in the film and reading the novelisation and hearing what K2 was thinking at that point just makes things even sadder.
I’m still hoping for him to make an appearance in Rebels but with so few episodes left now, I am coming to accept that this is unlikely.
Who’s your favourite droid? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
