31 Days of Star Wars – Day 2

Welcome to 31 Days of Star Wars! As this is a new blog I thought this would be the perfect way for you to get to know me a bit by answering a different question about my Star Wars preferences each day in March. Today’s subject is…

Favourite member of the Empire

There are probably less characters to choose from in the Empire than I had for my favourite Rebel pick yesterday, but that did not necessarily make it easier. Darth Vader almost got the nod for the hallway scene in Rouge One alone, but I ended up looking to the Imperial officers. I was about to pick Rae Sloane, who has appeared or been mentioned in multiple canon media since her introduction in A New Dawn, but then I remembered the Chiss who drove fans wild when he appeared in the trailer for season 3 of Rebels: Grand Admiral Thrawn.

“To defeat an enemy, you must know them. Not simply their battle tactics, but their history, philosophy, art.”

He has arguably shown himself to be one of the best officers in the Empire and has risen to such a high rank despite not being human. He is the Star Wars equivalent of Sherlock Holmes, finding meaning in the most simple of things to help him take down the Rebels, just watch the end of the Rebels season 3 episode Through Imperial Eyes and watch him deduce who the Rebel spy is.

I have never read any of the Legends stories containing Thrawn but had read enough on Wookieepedia to be excited by his introduction to canon, and Timothy Zahn’s novel Thrawn is the next on my list to pick up as I have heard he is even better in that than in Rebels.

Who would your favourite Imperial be? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading and May the Force be with you…
